Weather in Phuket Thailand

The weather in Phuket Thailand is always warm to hot - all year round and it never gets cold here, as it is located well within the tropics and fairly close to the equator. The weather patterns in Phuket are typical of most tropical locations with a wet and dry season and no real summer or winter as we would know it in other parts of the world.

There used to be a time when you could typically predict what weather each season will bring, but these days, the weather patterns around the world are pretty bizarre and all over the place and this applies to anywhere, including Phuket. Normally, you would experience clear sunny days from December till April and this is still mostly true, but there is the occasional spells of bad weather and rainy days that just seem to appear in this time now. Even though the weather patterns are a bit out, the average temperature in Phuket is 33 during the day and 23 at night, so it is always nice and warm - all year round.

What are the Weather Seasons in Phuket?

The Dry Season is from around December till sometime during April and after April is when the Wet Season begins. The wettest time in Phuket is usually in September - October and the hottest time is April - May. The coolest time is December - January.

The Best Time to Visit Phuket for Good Weather

December is normally the best time to holiday in Phuket for good weather, as it is the coolest month and there is usually the most clear sunny days in this time. The average daily temperature is only a couple of degrees cooler in December but the humidity is less and there is usually a nice cool breeze that blows in the afternoon which cools things down even more.
It should be noted that December is by far the most expensive time to visit Phuket and also the most crowded, so if you like to travel on a budget, then this is not the best time to visit, also if you like peace and quiet, then coming for a holiday in December or January would not be the best time.

In recent times, Phuket has had some some spells of heavy rain with the occasional floods and these floods can last for days. Low lying areas such as Patong, flood pretty easily when there is heavy rain and it only takes a few hours of constant heavy rain for for the streets to be filled with water. Walking back to your hotel after a spell of rain can mean walking in water that up past your ankles, so keep this in mind if you are planning on staying in Patong during the rainy season.
